What studying Maths does for students:

•    Mathematics is a universal part of human culture.
•    It is the tool and language of commerce, engineering and other sciences – physics, computing, biology etc.
•    It helps us recognise patterns and to understand the world around us.
•    Mathematics plays a vital, often unseen, role in many aspects of modern life.
•    As society becomes more technically dependent, there will be an increasing requirement for people with a high level of mathematical training.
•    Analytical and quantitative skills are sought by a wide range of employers.
•    A maths qualification is a prerequisite of most college courses and job offers.

At Foundation Stage (Years 7, 8, 9) key components/topics covered are:
The branches of maths: Number, Algebra, Shape & Measures, Ratio & Proportional Reasoning, Statistics, Probability.


At Personalisation Stage (GCSE) (10, 11) key components/topics covered are:
The branches of maths: Number, Algebra, Shape & Measures, Ratio & Proportional Reasoning, Statistics, Probability.

Exam Board followed at GCSE is:

Edexcel, the linear course which is currently syllabus code: 1MA1

Method of Assessment:

Three exams, normally a couple of days apart. The first without a calculator, the second and third both using a calculator.

Each paper is equally weighted and the combined score is 100% of the final GCSE grade.
