Sports Report - Senior Boys Hockey
A great bunch of Chilton Year 10/11 boys faced an enthusiastic Brymore team this evening. With usual goalkeeper G Hale unavailable, C Barrett took to the field for his first game in the keeper kit. He looked quite imposing between the posts and in pre-match warm up was impressive. The team also fielded other debutants in C Ward, J Davies and B Sellick . W Stokes, N Cernikovs, R James and T Knight proved a strong spine for the team playing an important part in breaking down the Brymore attacking play and then breaking at speed to attack themselves. The Brymore Goalkeeper (also playing his first game and being half the size of W Stokes) made some good saves off shots from Will and Toby in the first half. in the second half Will, finding himself in the attacking D after a strong mazy run from half way, showed his determination in following up a shot, and literally, knocked the tiny keeper over as he forced the ball into goal.
Brymore had one key, pacy and skilled player who, in the first half, was able to dodge past tackle after tackle and deliver strong accurate and penetrating passes for the Brymore forwards to latch onto. The half time talk hatched a strategy to reduce his impact in the second half. It was great to see J Garner, Toby , Nikita and Will stick to the plan. The second half saw more domination by Chilton despite losing steady J Girdler and playing with just 10. C Ward and J Lloyd Howell grew in confidence and linked well on the right .
A great game played in great sporting manner resulting in a well deserved 2-0 win. (Goals Nikita and Will)
Continued training (by all) will bring further hockey success in the next games. Well done to all.
