Sports Report - Year 10/11 Girls Football
The Year 10/11 Girls Football team hosted Holyrood yesterday afternoon in the Somerset Cup knowing they were up against a very strong side. The game started well with Z Mizon and M Hellard prominent in attack and forcing the Holyrood keeper into making some good saves. The defence of G Reynolds, J Brind, M Austin, H Rossiter and M Taylor battled well against a pacy and skillful visiting attack who looked to cross dangerously into the box. In midfield G Lowe, M Rawle and N Nkala worked tirelessly against opponents who moved the ball quickly and passed with great accuracy. Holyrood took the lead in unfortunate circumstances as a clearance by H Rossiter hit a Holyrood attacker and fell to the feet of an a striker to finish into an empty net.
The 2nd half continued to be a good contest however the conceding of the all important 2nd goal seemed to take a little bit of the fighting spirit out of the girls and made the opposition relax. In goal J Granter showed improved kicking skills and good handling in wet conditions making a number of excellent saves. Chilton still threatened in attack as M Rawle, M Hellard and Z Mizon continued to link well. The introduction of J Shobbrook gave the girls some more energy in midfield but despite their best efforts Holyrood added two late goals to seal a 4-0 victory.
The girls can be very proud of their efforts against a very good team who will take some stopping in this competition. They will be looking to bounce back against BCA and Haygrove on Wednesday when their Area league games start.
