Sports Report - Year 10 Boys Football
Tonight the year 10 boys football team entertained Haygrove at home. After some drop outs and injuries the formation had to be tweaked somewhat and some year 9 players called up.
Haygrove enjoyed the brighter start with a high tempo and aggressive approach, they had a goal ruled out for a close offside decision, expertly given by the referee’s assistant. Despite this is it was Chilton who took the lead, Ashley Higgins hit a speculative effort that took a slight deflection and meant the keeper could not keep it out, 1-0. Haygrove had plenty of possession but didn’t have too many clear cut opportunities until a free kick was scored from some distance. At half time the scores were level.
Shortly after the restart chances fell for both teams. Travis Knapp made several routine saves and Manchip and Jennings were working hard at the back for the side. A moment of brilliance from Harrison Hambly made it 2-1, with the ball bouncing 20 ish yards out he volleyed the ball with great pace and it dipped under the bar, a superb strike. Haygrove pressed hard for an equaliser and had plenty of long range shots that didn’t trouble Knapp. Until a 50/50 challenge was missed which created a one to one and a slightly deflected effort sailed into the corner 2-2.
Both teams huffed and puffed but could not find a winner. It was a really good game, full of meaty challenges and committed players from both schools and probably a fair result.
