Sports Report - Year 10 Boys Football
This afternoon the Year 10 boys travelled down the M5 and took on our good friends Clevedon in the Somerset Cup. The game started well as good work from W Andrews and J Salter saw B Cooper get in and finish with ease to make it 1-0. Chilton played some nice attacking football with B Byles and L Lemaitre at the heart of good play. A poor challenge resulted in a penalty for Clevedon and they took advantage to make it 1-1. With Chilton creating chances against a physical Clevedon side they took the lead just before half-time as 'twinkle toes' L Lemaitre evaded several flying challenges to finish well. J Legg made a fantastic save to deny Clevedon and ensure Chilton took a 2-1 lead at the break.
The 2nd half saw both teams settle down with Chilton dominating possession but unable to pull away from their hosts. Clevedon pushed on and grabbed an equalise with a fine strike from the edge of the box. Spurred on Chilton's defense of A Francis, A Attwood and C Frost took control allowing A Sampson and B Byles to push on in wide areas. With 6 minutes remaining B Cooper capitalised on a keeping error to tap into an empty net. Despite some dubious officiating and lots of added time Chilton held on and scored once again as J Salter set B Cooper free to complete his hat-trick and seal a great 4-2 win.
In a fine team effort playing with the bare 11 they worked tirelessly to make it to the last 16 of the cup once again. Special mention must go to B Byles and A Sampson who impressed in their first school appearances whilst B Cooper took the man of the match award for his goal scoring efforts.
