Sports Report - Year 10 Football

Today the year 10 boys travelled to Millfield for the next round of the football county cup.

Millfield started well and knocked the ball around calmly but it was Chilton who created the first real chance of the game as Jack Francis headed the ball wide from a good cross, a huge chance to take an early lead. From here Millfield asserted themselves well and a superb blind pass carved open Chilton of which the striker slotted past home with ease. Millfield hit the post before a free kick was placed ‘top bins’ leaving Knapp with no chance to make it 2-0. The last 10 minutes of the half saw Chilton work hard and start to really get in the game.

At half time all I asked was that the boys put in a big shift for thirty minutes and became more aggressive all over the park. They managed this really well as Millfield had no clear cut chances in the whole half. Chilton battled brilliantly against a cynical side in which three players were booked but it could have been plenty. Credit to the boys, they stuck at it in the face some of the ‘dark arts’ of football. A loose back pass saw Ash Higgins go around the goalkeeper but on the angle hit the side netting in a huge let off for Millfield. As Chilton went more direct Millfield were uneasy but Chilton could not capitalise on their half chances.
