Sports Report - Year 11 Rugby

The Year 11 boys travelled to Blake and put in a fine effort defeating a strong and physical side who gave Chilton a tough game. Chilton started well and forced Blake into lots of mistakes and penalties. Despite lots of the ball the boys had to wait until 10 minutes before B Cooper broke through to score in the corner to score a try which he converted himself. Chilton took control with CJ Lee chasing a kick to the corner and scoring whilst B Cooper bundled over the line after good pressure. The score of the first half came when J Searle rounded off a fine team move involving  D Del Pina, B Cooper and M Dare. H Huett, P Warren and D Del Pina shone in defense making lots of tackles and stopping the opposition from making breaks. Blake scored just before half-time to make the score 22-5 at the break.

The 2nd half started in fine fashion as B Cooper capitalised on in-decision in the home team to regain his kick-off and score his third try. Chilton lost concentration and lost their way for a while as individual errors and kicking away possession gave Blake some initiative. Blake scored twice in quick succession to reduce the deficit to 27-15 with ten minutes to go. After stern words the boys switched on and hit Blake hard, H Hodge produced a barnstorming run to finish under the posts after good work by C Brunskill and J Searle. The final score of the game saw D Del Pina score in the corner after good work by M Dare and J Searle once again.

Chilton can be pleased with their 39-15 victory against tough opposition but know they have lots of work to do if they want to make the final after Christmas.

A number of players made significant contributions with H Dawson strong in the lineout, H Hodge and C Brunskill strong in the scrum and P Warren and M Dare dominant at the ruck. H Huett tackled brilliantly however man of the match went to J Searle for a great effort both in attack and in defence.
