Sports Report - Year 7 Football
The year 7 football teams took part in their first fixtures of the year against Kind Alfred's school. The attendance to training has been fantastic and selecting two teams from the 40 pupils was a difficult task.
The A team started their match in a cautious and defensive manner, with most of the action taking place in front of the Chilton goal during the first 5 minutes. Despite holding a good tactical shape, King Alfred's took an early lead following a hard, low finish past Mill’s outstretched right hand. Chilton soon shook off their early nerves and started to pass the ball more confidently, with Wall and Hooper creating some clearer chances for Flaherty in attack. The first half ended neck and neck, with the boys growing in confidence for the second half.
The team adopted a more attacking formation after halftime and looked more dangerous on the counter-attack with Adams and Salata Sousa advancing down the flanks. Mills, Ukachu and Mountstevens defended superbly and Flaherty broke through on goal, only to be denied by a fingertip save by the King Alfred’s keeper. Chilton continued to press for an equaliser and Salata Sousa struck a sweet left-footed shot just wide of the near post. King Alfred’s defended confidently and were a tough team to break down going into the latter stages of the game. Despite Chilton’s fantastic effort throughout, King Alfred’s narrowly won the match 1-0.
The team should be extremely proud of their performance and can take plenty of confidence going into the next round of matches against Blake on the 11th February.
