Sports Report - Year 8 Boys Football

Tonight I had the pleasure of being caretaker manager of the year 8 boys football side against Haygrove as normal manager Mr Chadwick was otherwise engaged in a meeting.

Chilton started slowly as Haygrove flew out of the blocks and hustled brilliantly. They were soon 1-0 up as a speculative long range shot managed to find its way in somehow. This kicked Chilton into gear and they started to play some good football and were level as Olly Manchip scored direct from a corner. Haygrove scored once more as some hesitant defending allowed them to have a free run on goal, 2-1.

A great ball from Tristan Onslow allowed Higgins to run through on goal and make it 2-2 at half time.

Some injuries meant changes were needed and this upset Chilton’s rhythm somewhat as for the first 10-15 minutes Haygrove dominated and went to a deserved 4-2 lead, again some errors allowing the opposition some gifts. Chilton were not done yet and pulled a goal back as Manchip scored from a free kick to make it 4-3 with 8 minutes to go. Chilton piled the pressure on and with 4 minutes to go Higgins grabbed a second from close range to make it 4-4. Some more chances were missed by Chilton who were the team in control but a long corner was not dealt with and with less than 2 minutes to play Haygrove scores their winner.

A disappointing result given the hard work the boys put in but I cannot fault their effort and desire to get back into the game when 4-2 down.
