Sports Report - Year 8 Boys Football Final
This evening the Year 8 boys made the short trip to Haygrove to play their football final. Having seemed like they were up for the battle they put in a terrible first half effort which saw the team concede four sloppy goals that could have been avoided without individual errors.
After a stern team talk and the presence of a bigger away crowd (Mr Butt) the sloppiness of the first half was replaced by a hard working tough tackling approach which Haygrove struggled to cope with. Chilton started the come back when B Bradley tapped home a fine O Manchip cross. Then a J Deane corner fell to O Manchip in the box and he fired home to make it 2-4. With Haygrove beginning to panic the boys continued to pour on the pressure and a fine curling shot from A Higgins reduced the deficit to one goal. Chilton were full of confidence with J Deane, T Gough and S Watts making a number of good tackles to get the ball back. A break on the left saw O Manchip get away from the home defenders and he slotted home to make it 4-4 and the game looked to be going to extra time. Then with only a minute to go O Manchip's shot from a narrow angle hit the post and was cleared to a Haygrove player who hacked clear, from the break away the ball fell to a Haygrove player in the box and he rifled home with the last kick of the game to give Haygrove a 5-4 victory.
The boys were shattered both physically and mentally at the end of the game having produced a brilliant second half come back. They were a real credit to the school and are well worthy of praise if you see them around school over the next few days.
Man of the match went to O Manchip who put in a real effort in midfield.
