Sports Report - Year 8 Rounders
Year 8 went to Blake for their second tournament, knowing it would be tough to beat Haygrove. We didn't have a full squad of year 8's, so we drafted in Hannah Cannings and Ruby Clay from year 7. They were nervous to start with, but soon settled down as we started our first game against Blake and Ava scored from the first ball. Full rounders interspersed with halves took our total to 6.5 including 2.5 from Rileigh and 0.5 for Ruby on her debut for year 8. Blake's batting wasn't anything special, scoring one half through a hit and another half from 2 no balls. Win number 1.
Blake had 2 teams tonight, so we played their second team. Their bowler had really improved, using a variety of height and speed, making batting unpredictable. Ava was out first ball, causing a bit of worry, however, good hits and sensible running took our total to 7, including scores from Madi, Paige, Freya, Rileigh and the 2 year 7's.
Blake's second team were more successful with their batting and scored 5 good rounders. Our close fielding was pretty effective too and we got 6 of their players out. Win 2, 7-5 to Chilton.
Game 3 v King Alfs. They chose to bat first, which threw us, but we held them to only 1.5 rounders. Ruby scored 2.5 and basically won the game on her own, but other scores from Paige, Rileigh, Madi and Megan took our final score to 5. Win 3!
Game 4 v BCA. The girls didn't mess about in this game, they knew they had to get on with it a get a few rounders on the scoreboard. Ruby, Hannah, Ava, Paige, Rileigh and Amelia scored to notch up a respectable 7.5. Paige and Ruby fielded to ball well into 2nd to get 3 players out and BCA failed to score anything until ball 15. 3 more rounders followed giving them a total of 4. Win 4!
Game 5 v Haygrove. Again Ava was out on ball 1 through a daft choice to run when she shouldn't have, but sensible running by Megan, Amelia, Madi, and Freya gave us several half rounders and great hits from Hannah, Ruby, and Amelia gained whole rounder, giving us a fairly low score for Haygrove to catch. Brilliant fielding, with sensible play from Paige and Freya to Ava on 2nd got 3 players out, including one of their big hitters. By ball 18 Chilton were still in the lead and I thought we might just get the better of them in this tournament. The girls must have relaxed a bit too, a bit too soon though and through a fielding mistake, let Haygrove seal their win, followed by another half on the last good ball. Loss to Chilton 7.5-8.5 (very sad face)
The girls enjoyed themselves and demonstrated great team spirit and determination.
