Sports Report - Year 9 Boys Football

Yesterday evening our Year 9 boys entertained league leaders King Alfred's and put in a season best performance full of commitment and discipline. The game started with KAS dominating and Chilton soon fell behind as a long ball over the top fell to the very fast striker in the opposition who finished well past J Legg. The boys rode their luck a little as KAS missed a number of opportunities to increase their lead however a mixture of good defending and poor finishing kept us in the game. After good play from L Wilson and L Birch we were awarded a free kick 30m out, L Birch hit the target and from the follow up O Richardson was first to react and fire home from close range to even the score. In midfield O Richardson, K Lewis and M Hucker tackled and closed down the lively KAS players leading to them giving the ball away and growing frustration.

The second half saw Chilton organise the defensive areas better and come up with a game plan that enabled them to break quickly. The defense of H Hurford, J Rollings, F Chowdury and O Davey cleared their lines well and marked their opposition with good determination. A clearance from H Hurford found O Richardson who found A Date who broke clear to finish with ease to give Chilton a 2-1 lead with 10 minutes to go. J Legg made a fine save to deny a KAS striker however a long ball over the top was squared to an on-rushing KAS midfielder who fired home from the edge of the box to make it 2-2. Both teams attacked frantically trying to score the winner however a draw was a fair result as both teams gave their all.

In a tough game against very good opposition the boys came away with a draw against last years winners. Man of the match went to K Lewis who put in a hard-working display in midfield.
