Sports Report - Yr7 Hockey

The year 7 girls hockey team travelled away to King Alfred's for the next round of matches tonight. Despite the miserable weather, the girls were in good spirits and the 14 strong squad were keen and full of enthusiasm.

First up, the A team played against King Alfred's. The girls fought hard and dominated possession, yet struggled for a while to score a goal. Their persistence didn't fail them however, and soon Grace made a beautiful pass to Ava, who dribbled it further herself before placing it in the back of the net. This boosted the girls and they were thirsty for more. They continued with confidence and determination and soon all attackers were happily attempting shots on goal. After a lot of hard work, Paige made a superb tackle to win the ball inside the D and scored to secure the lead. Not content with leaving it there, the girls didn't show an ounce of complacency in the attempt to increase the lead further. Shortly before the final whistle Keira and Grace had their turn to shine, with some fantastic teamwork gaining a third and final goal. Final score, 3-0

Our next match was against Haygrove and the girls were keen to continue with their winning streak. With some impressive movement between Maddie and Lilly in defence, the team felt secure knowing that they would not concede. Rightly so, the attack and midfield  showed off some fantastic individual skills as well as great team work to get the ball in to the D on a number of occasions. Fortunately the positioning of Freya meant that she was always there to put her stick on a ball coming through the middle. Twice she manage a first touch shot of goal, which was successful both times. Final score, 2-0.

Finally, the B team had their chance to play and faced Haygrove on the pitch. With 3 players making their debut, our inexperience was a concern. However, the team work and support of those more experienced meant that the newbies felt comfortable to get stuck in and give it their all. Battling hard for the full duration resulted in a well earned 0-0 draw.

The girls are now full of confidence with their undefeated record and need to work hard at training to further develop their understanding of tactical play.
