Sports Report - Yr8 Hockey Girls

Another fantastic evening was spent with our awesome yr 8 hockey girls. We travelled to Haygrove for the second tournament of the season with 14 cheerful girls who had ably been assembled by Alice P.

Both Haygrove and Chilton girls split into A and B teams and the first games saw the A teams play each other on one pitch and the Bs play off on the other dusty Redgra pitch.

Both Haygrove's Miss Nardiello and Chilton's Mrs Hedaux remarked at the huge improvement in game play by all. The Haygrove team were confident on the bouncy Redgra pitch but the Chilton girls were quick to adapt with Alice P using her skill to take the ball into space, Jazz F making sound tackles and distributing the ball cleverly and Charlie H so calmly as the last line of defence clearing the ball strongly. Lauren Hill positioned herself in great positions .

The game saw Chilton stay strong in defence and were unlucky not to capitalise on their chances in attack to see the game finish in a 0-0 draw.

The B teams also drew with Morgan and Charlotte working strongly to take the ball into attack.

In the Chilton A v Haygrove B game Chilton used their greater speed and confidence to quickly score through Ferne H's persistence. However Haygrove did not give in and almost immediately pulled one back and then capitalised on a stunned Chilton to go 2-1 ahead after a muddle in defence. Jazz F pulled the team back into focus, winning the ball and releasing it into attack time and time again. Chilton were unlucky with their shots going wide or having a miss hit in front of goal until Fern was able to equalise. Lauren H was then able to get on the end of a shot from Alice just outside the D to take Chilton team into the lead just before the final whistle.

The B team found the Haygrove A team just a little too strong but we're happy that they had played well.

A great set of results which put Chilton into pole position for a place as Sedgemoor winners for the Somerset games at Millfield in December. The next few training sessions and match will be important!!!

Well done to all....
