Sports Report - Yr9 Football Report

At the beginning of term a committed and fantastically keen Year 9 boys team travelled to Kings of Wessex to play the first round of the County Cup.   After some reshuffling of the pack, Chilton took an early lead through Owen Mountain, as the ball was played through beautifully by Harrison Hambly, Owen outpaced the centre back and calmly finished when one-on-one with their goalkeeper.  Chilton continued to dominate the majority of the first half with Blake Toogood and Jack Francis  causing some issues with their pace.  Captain Lewis Jennings, Hambly and Okan Kaynak (making his debut) worked tirelessly in the middle.  KOW eventually started to get their foot on the ball towards the end of the half and had one long range shot which Bruno Silva saved comfortably.  The defence, well marshalled by Oliver Manchip and Vince Marsh, meant the team finished the half 1-0 up and comfortable.

The second half saw a more direct approach from KOW but Chilton continued their dominance of the game and the defence were superb again with Nathan Howes and Billy Creswell becoming more involved in the game and doing superb jobs.  Mountain was put through one-on-one with the goalkeeper again and calmly lifted the ball over the keeper, a superb finish to make it 2-0.  Chilton continued to press and play the ball around nicely on a slow and lumpy surface and Mountain got his hat trick as the keeper came, missed the ball completely enabling him to slot into an empty net to seal a superb victory.

Quite rightly the boys were very pleased with themselves, all XI were superb and a credit to the school.  Particularly pleasing to hear their referee point out several times that there were no snide remarks and moaning from Chilton as there were from KOW.

Player(s) of the match could have been any of the team, but jointly Owen Mountain for his hat trick and Olly Manchip who was excellent at centre back.
