U14 Girls Football
Tonight the girls travelled to Danesfield School to play a county cup football fixture.
The game started at a ferocious pace as both sides struggled to find width and time on the ball. It was Danesfield who had the early possession near the area but only one real opportunity put wide of Ava Scobie’s goal. After this Chilton looked more threatening as Jayla Smith started to run at their defence causing big problems. Paige Taylor hustled well upfront. Eventually a goal keeper kicking mistake meant Holly Daly picked the ball up, turned and lobbed the keeper into an empty net from 25 yards. A great strike under pressure. With only two minutes until half time it was a case of seeing out the half on top but the dangerous Jayla ran through a host of defenders before Lauren Harris toe poked a through ball back to the rampaging Smith who calmly slotted past the oncoming goalkeeper. 2-0 at half time.
With some changes made at half time the girls continued to play some great football and swarmed the Danesfield goal. The pressure continued as Ruby Clay almost made it 3-0 before Holly Daly calmly slotted away with her left foot from the resulting corner. 3-0. Paige Taylor then, rather unfortunately, hit the post twice in two minutes and Lauren Harris also came close. Constant subs were rotated and players playing out of their normal positions which was great to see but meant Danesfield came back into the game late on as they scored one of a few clear cut chances to end the game 3-1.
There is no player of the match as, quite genuinely, the girls were all superb and put in a real team display. Special mention (bar those already mentioned) must go to Bethan Hambly, Natalya Smith and Katie Escott who worked tirelessly all match adding really energy and aggression to the side.
A great bunch to be with on a sunny Wednesday afternoon.
