U15 Girls Cricket
Yesterday the U15 girls cricket team hosted the next round of the County Cup, a win would see them through to County Finals.
First up was a strong Castle side. Having lost the toss Chilton batted first and scored a very healthy 71 thanks to Morgan Edwards retiring on 18 and some other big blows from Jodi Head and Chilton had put themselves into a great position. When Castle batted however, Chilton were extremely inconsistent with the ball and allowed Castle to rocket along at 15 an over. A couple of tighter overs pulled the game back but Castle got over the line with three balls to spare. Disappointing given the position we were in.
Castle beat Hayesfield so it became a straight shoot out between Chilton and Hayesfield. Chilton lost yet another toss and scored a rather respectable 56 from the 6 overs thanks to Jodi Head retiring on 17, Alice Pittey and Tiffany Onojaife both scoring 11 not each.
Chilton started brilliantly as Morgen Palfrey took a wicket in her first over and Morgan Edwards took three wickets in four balls (she was on a hat trick but the edge was dropped by the keeper!) and Chilton were in command. A really tight over from Ava Scobie really pulled Chilton ahead as favourites but the girls showed an alarming lack of focus and this led to Hayesfield scoring some easy runs to pull themselves back into the game and eventually only needing 5 from the last to win. Morgan Edwards bowled yet another batter but Hayesfield edged to a victory with two balls to spare. Morgan unfortunate to be on the losing side ended with the brilliant figures of 1.4 overs 4-14.
The girls were very disappointed to not progress and I am still not sure how they didn't. They are keen to put this right in the outdoor competitions in the summer.
