Year 8 Boys Football

This evening I took a keen and eager bunch of Year 8 boys to King Alfred's knowing a win would probably secure a finals place after Easter. The game was an even contest in the early stages with both teams playing some nice football. KAS took the lead against the run of play and soon added a second as Chilton failed to deal with the long ball over the top. Will Stevens looked sharp up front and nearly scored when his left foot volley came back off the cross bar. Chilton reduced the arrears when O Manchip found W Stevens in the box and he slammed home. The boys visibly grew in confidence and just before half-time T Onslow found W Stevens who took two attempts to finish from close range.

The second half saw Chilton dominate as J Deane, T Gough, E Gannicott and P Gogolin looked solid in defence. O Manchip, A Taylor and S Watts controlled midfield whilst T Onslow, W Stevens and J White lined up well in attack. With the KAS keeper pulling off a number of fine saves and S Watts, T Onslow, O Manchip and W Stevens hitting the bar it looked like a goal would never come. Up stepped the tenacious J White to win the game as he coolly ran onto a T Onslow pass to fire home and give Chilton a 3-2 lead. The boys confidently saw out the remainder of the game despite late KAS pressure to seal the win and a likely return final against Haygrove after Easter.

All the boys deserve credit for their efforts and willingness to keep going. Man of the match went to Will Stevens for an action packed performance.
