Assessment and Reporting

Students’ progress is monitored on a continual basis by staff and National Curriculum levels or GCSE grades are recorded for every student regularly. In some subjects, an examination is held once a year in Years 7, 8 and 9 in order to train and prepare students for the experience of end of course examinations in Years 10 and 11. If staff are concerned about any aspect of a student’s progress or welfare, parents and carers are contacted by the form tutor, Team Leader or House Leader so that potential problems can be dealt with promptly. We also encourage parents or carers to contact the school if they are concerned about any aspect of a student’s progress or welfare. In this way, we can work in partnership to achieve the best possible outcome with every child.

Parents and carers receive an update on their child’s progress at regular intervals and an opportunity to discuss progress with Subject teachers is provided at a Parents’ Evening for every Year group.

Our pastoral system provides structured time for form tutors to have Learning Conversations with our students so that target grades and levels can be discussed, reviewed and understood by everyone. Careful steps and learning goals can then be negotiated for every student. In this way our students can be supported in working to achieve their targets and of course, encouraged to exceed them!
